Reiki is an ancient hands-on healing practice which was
rediscovered in Japan in the late 19th century and is now
widely taught and practiced around the world.
Reiki is based on the premise that a universal life energy
is present in all living things and when this energy becomes
blocked, discomfort and disease can occur.
During a Reiki session, the practitioner facilitates the
release of such blocks in a gentle yet effective manner
which can do no harm; only a great deal of good.
Although Reiki is predominantly practiced on people, it has
proven to be particularly effective on animals, since they
readily accept its healing benefits without judgement,
skepticism or hesitation.![]()
Reiki can provide relief from the effects of arthritis,
rheumatism and other debilitating conditions in
animals.
Reiki can accelerate the healing of post-surgical trauma,
wounds, breaks and sprains in animals.
Reiki can delay the onset and progression of certain
diseases in animals.
Reiki can energize and revitalize an older
animal.
Reiki can soothe and calm highly-strung, hyper-active and
stressed animals.
Reiki can help to alleviate lethargy and depression in
animals.
Reiki is not a replacement for, but rather an adjunct to,
other forms of therapy and medication.![]()
John and Elaine Wiles have been students, benefactors and
practitioners of Reiki for over nine years altogether. While
employed as a veterinary health technician in 1985, John
adopted a seriously injured white dove which he named Mr.
Pickwick or Wick for short. (See cover shot) As John and
Elaine became increasingly schooled in Reiki, they began
applying its healing technique on their precious Wick on a
regular basis - until the final moments of his long and
happy life, which ended peacefully in their loving and
gifted hands on September 29, 2000 at the ripe old age of
18.
John Wiles has been practicing Reiki on animals for over
three years now. In addition, he brings six years experience
as a veterinary health technician and animal
dietician.
Elaine Wiles has been practicing Reiki on animals and people
for over six years now and it has become an integral part of
her work as a spiritual psychotherapist.![]()

"Cookie our cat was at death's door. The vet couldn't do
anything more for her and was recommending euthanasia. As a
last resort we turned to Reiki. Before long she was crying
less and had more energy than she'd had for the past year.
Reiki dramatically improved the quality of her life and gave
us another joyful year with our beloved Cookie."

"My two Samoyed dogs were very close. Last year when my
darling Schuyler died suddenly of a brain tumor, her brother
lost his will to live. The arthritis in his hips became so
bad that he could barely walk. Plus he couldn't keep his
food down in his stomach, and he was extremely lethargic.
John and Elaine have been coming to my home to give him
Reiki every other week for about a year now. And the change
in Hozie has been miraculous. His appetite is excellent, his
eyes twinkle, and he is strong and mobile. He looks forward
to his daily walks and still loves to play tug-of-war even
though he's almost 15 years old now!"
~ Martha Burrows, Toronto
"My cat was very sick. I was so worried and then someone
told me about Reiki. After the first treatment I could see
the change in him, and after that I looked forward to his
weekly treatment."
~ Mrs. I. Facey, Toronto
"My dog was such a beauty with a full, long double coat when
she was young. But then she started to lose her hair and
after seeing many specialists, was diagnosed with Lupus. She
lived to be almost 13 and during the last year of her life,
received Reiki treatments which not only energized her, but
produced large clumps of dense new hair where the
practitioners placed their hands."
